Abstract
For my qualitative study of the culture at John F. Kennedy University I have chosen to utilize first person accounts in the form of interviews to collect my data. I will be commingling structured and unstructured interview methods to gather information from students enrolled in the Master of Arts in Consulting Psychology program. As the researcher I will influence this cultural study in several ways. The interviews I conduct, the techniques I use, and my method of recording information will all significantly impact the results of my study. The fact that I am a part of the culture I am studying will also have an impact on my study. The data I collected shows that there are in fact perceived differences in culture between the School of Management and the Graduate School for Professional Psychology. However, there is no consensus on why these differences exist. Several participants revealed that they are searching for where they fit in, to which culture they belong. There was much discussion around the feeling type of interacting at the Graduate School for professional Psychology as opposed to the thinking/doing type of interaction at the School of Management. Another major theme is confusion on the part of some participants as to how to commingle their traditionally business skills with their clinical tendencies. My findings indicate that these two diverse cultures have a major impact on the students in the Consulting Psychology program.
