Abstract

The purpose of this thesis is to explore and define parentification and the influence it has on adult functioning in an effort to better understand the phenomenon and the implications for clinical practice. The methods used to for this exploration will include a research based literature review followed by a critical analysis of the current literature. Conclusion of this thesis will include an evidence backed discussion on implications for clinical practice and suggested therapeutic interventions. Additionally, multiple avenues for further research and analysis will be approached and the limitations of the conclusions drawn in this thesis will be discussed.
