Abstract
The purpose of this research analysis is to determine to what extent state-of-theart computer based training applications incorporate sound psychological principles for motivation. I will be focusing on how motivation is being used, specifically to help individuals teach themselves learning techniques using a computer.
As technology rapidly changes our environment, businesses are becoming more and more dependent on the computer to complete everyday tasks. Because the move towards faster, more compact computers has been so rapid, people are trying to adapt to the use without adequate training to help become accustomed to the process.
The motivation for computer use has been a 'do or die' approach, and some are dying. As the workplace continues to shift from the task-oriented to the cognitive-oriented, due to advances in technology, jobs are becoming more complex and demanding. Training has become an extremely important aspect of the workplace. It is critical to design training programs to enhance learning skills and promote the transfer of knowledge and skills to the job. Age is also an important factor in learning and retention of these skills and should be considered when designing a training program.
This study will research what computer based learning/training programs are available today and begin the definition for a better, more effective approach utilizing intrinsic motivation to learn how to learn.
