Abstract

The ideas, aesthetics, and approach to my art work have been extended due to increased awareness of contemporary work being done in art. I am particularly interested in the idea of obsessive repetition in my process of working. Two artists who work with this idea are Eva Hesse and Hanne Darboven.. Eva Hesse uses obsessive elements in her sculptures. Many times these elements are fibrous. Hanne Darboven uses compulsive repetition of writing and numbers in her artwork. I took the idea of an obsessively repetitive element, 22-gauge steel wire, and worked in a scheduled 40 hours a week. The body of my paper is a written description of the sculpture that resulted from this idea.
