Abstract
My master's project focuses on the opportunities and challenges that one museum faces during multiple blockbuster exhibitions. Challenges include that museum staff can get burned out from dealing with excessive work that comes with blockbusters; the hosting museum's permanent collection can be neglected because the museum's resources are focused on the exhibition; and continuous blockbusters can create unrealistic expectations for visitors. The main challenge that this thesis will focus on is that after a blockbuster leaves, new members need to be enticed, inspired or convinced to renew their membership. If museums are going to rely heavily on memberships as a part of their revenue stream, it is important that they are able to turn blockbuster visitors into loyalists.
