Are we missing something? Is valuable evidence being overlooked due to a lack of training and technology with regards to footwear impression collection and analysis? This research explores some of the reasons why footwear impression evidence often goes overlooked. Is it because of a lack of training or education? Is it because it is viewed as being only circumstantial in nature? Or is it because of a lack of technology associated with this type of evidence? The reader will be given insight into the answers to these questions and will see why there has historically been less emphasis placed on footwear evidence. Through understanding these shortfalls and gaps it is hoped that the area of footwear impression collection and analysis can become of even greater use to the law enforcement community, and in doing so, lead to an increase in case closures and convictions.
