Abstract

The primary purpose of the project is to open discussion in the field regarding interactives as permanent exhibition items, and whether maintaining documentation benefits museums. It also investigates current record keeping practices and what motivates museums to keep varying levels of documentation. The thesis further worked to engage museum professionals concerning current conversations surrounding the consolidation and management those records. From this research, I developed guidelines to aid museum professionals interested in creating their own interactive record keeping systems, and provide examples of the types of records they may want to consider creating and maintaining according to their institutional needs.
