Abstract

This thesis describes the background and the historical terrorism activities in the Horn of Africa defined broadly to include the current States of Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, Kenya, Somalia, Sudan, and Uganda. In addition, this project will show how the Al Qaeda has some links of network with local Extremists Islamic Organizations in those countries. This study will show how African continent is vulnerable to terrorists’ networks due to local insurgency (militias), poverty, political instability, lax security and diseases such as HIV/AIDS and corruption. Every conflict resolution process needs a solid base of facts to stand on, however it is very often difficult to obtain accurate facts. This war on terrorism might make Officials realize what they should have known in the past. Africa should not be kept at the back if U.S. security interests are to be advanced. This thesis will come up with some facts to combat the terrorism activities, political instabilities, poverty, and diseases throughout the efforts of the international community and in particularly the United States of America in helping Africa continent to end the internal problems in order to prevent the terrorism activities.
