Abstract

The purpose of this master's project is to inform the museum profession and the Native American recipients of repatriated materials of the potential health and safety hazards associated with Native American cultural items that have been treated with pesticides. The project results in a resource manual, which provides details for collections managers about pesticides that have been used in these museum collections; it also provides information about how to safely handle, care for and, in some cases, repatriate objects that have been treated with these pesticides. It includes a glossary of terms, a list of agencies and individuals who can be contacted for more information, and an index of poisons, their symptoms, Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) information, and potential treatments.
