Abstract
The research for this thesis, which included seeking artifacts, and clarifying my thoughts and direction provided a fascinating opportunity to delve into a most appealing subject--the life and times of children at the turn of the century. The adventure proved both illuminating and, naturally, frustrating. Among the choices faced were how to select the most apt quote or the most provocative point of view from a well-documented library of information on the Victorian age; how to condense this multi-faceted era into a description of less than a few chapters.
