Abstract

As the workforce grows and the economy changes there is one trend that is extremely common throughout corporations. This trend is the concept of going global. Many corporatons are going global in an attempt to stay afloat in this unstable economy. With this global expansion comes a whole different set of human resource management concerns. Concerns that range from alignment and consistency issues to being able to provide the most basic human resource management for each region. The human resource management training that takes place here in the United State do prove to be sufficient for the offices located in the United States, but they are not effective for the offices located outside of the United States. How do companies that are global with office locations across the world provide the best possible human resource management to their employees when different rules and regulations apply to each location dependent on where in the world it is located? How is consistency achieved throughout each office location in an attempt to maintain organizational alignment, when there are so many varying rules, regulations, and process when dealing with different countries? Lam Research, is a global company that might be faced with this very question. Their headquarters are located in Fremont, California but they have office locations in Japan, China, Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, and Europe. These global locations make Lam vulnerable to be inappropriately trained and skilled in global human resources. Corporate goals and objectives will need to be region and culture specific in order to provide the global employees with the best possible tool for success. This is an issue that many global companies face; how do you provide efficient, effective human resources management across the regions? How is consistency maintained thru many different regions?
