Abstract

The intent of this exhibition is to demonstrate the existence in the San Francisco Bay Area of a large body of high quality early American furniture, previously unknown. The scope of this exhibition includes all of the major furniture forms: seating, case pieces, tables, and clocks. The date range extends from pieces of the earliest possible domestic manufacture, the fourth decade of the seventeenth century, to the first quarter of the nineteenth century, a point at which manufacturing techniques altered in favor of mechanization.
