Abstract
This project focuses on how fine art museums can use digital imaging software to produce images of high aesthetic quality of their collection for use by the public, researchers and staff. The purpose of the project is to produce a guide that outlines procedures for using image manipulation tools (i.e. the cropping, sharpening, brightness/ contrast, etc. tool found in imaging software programs) to solve imaging problems. The booklet identifies how art museums personnel can select specific software for their needs and use it to create truer images on screen. The guide also presents solutions to common problems encountered in collections documentation digitizing projects and suggests ways in which collections managers can address aesthetic issues that arise when fine arts museums scan images of their collections into computer databases.
