Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine (a) how supportive museum directors were in allowing employees to participate in decisions, and (b) to discover how much participation the employees currently had. Two surveys were utilized: the first to museum directors, and the other to employees selected from 19 of the surveyed museums. The results of the study suggested that, although supportive in attitude towards participative management, museum directors were not willing to allow the amount of participation the employees desired. That which was permitted seemed to be reserved for upper level, and in many cases, male employees.
