Abstract
Law enforcement officials are exposed to multiple sources of stress on a daily basis. Their ability to cope with stress is dependant on recognition and acknowledgment of its existence along with the availability of proper tools to assist in the healing process. The majority of law enforcement agencies have established policies and procedures for officers experiencing work related stress but these same agencies have failed to recognize the specific stress needs of specialized law enforcement officials. This project proposes that homicide investigators and behavioral profilers are exposed to unique sources of stress inherent in their duties. At the present time there are few resources to help these investigators deal with the stress they are subjected to. This paper analyzes the different resources available to the general law enforcement population and discusses the possibility of adapting those to meet the needs of homicide investigators and profilers.
