Abstract

The specific goal of this study was to determine the definable emotional intelligence competencies, skills and behaviors that are being taught and applied within organizational settings, and to identify which of these, if any, specifically impact the use of and resolution of conflict within organizations. At the practical level this study could increase the impact of OD interventions that target either Emotional Intelligence or conflict management. It is my intention that this research will impact and guide practitioners of EI and conflict skills interventions to more specifically target their results at the effective use of organizational conflict and will seek to understand outcomes attained from EI trainings that are alive in the subjective experiences of the participants. I attempted to determine what, in relation to conflict management, might a participant in an EI training be able to demonstrate upon completion of the training? I will determine which skills or competencies informants identify as impacting their capacity to resolve a specific conflict within their organizational setting. My attempt was to discover and qualify specific EI competencies that are actually understood, experienced and repeatable for participant's verses written about by theorist.
