Abstract
We are currently faced with a crisis in healing on a planetary scale; the deterioration of human health, planetary destruction and spiritual emptiness are becoming more and more prevalent in our lives. Up to this point, the fields of holistic health, environmental sustainability and spirituality have held different perspectives of the world. Holistic health, with its emphasis on personal healing, sustainability, with its call for ecological balance, and spirituality, with its focus on spiritual growth, are not truly separate realms. Rather, they are all part of a greater movement towards wholeness. Healing, which I define as a remembering of and a reawakening to our essential wholeness, is relevant to all of these areas The model for healing I have developed explores wholeness in self, communities, societies, Gala and the entire Cosmos and is made up of five themes: 1) starting with ourselves; 2) balancing the inner and outer; 3) honouring the cycles of life; 4) recognising the multiple levels of existence; and 5) calling in a Higher Power. I apply these concepts to various somatic exercises, which include movement, visualisation, ritual, drawing and joumaling. These experiential exercises are meant to connect us to our authentic voices, visions and intentions for healing. This comprehensive model is intended for healers, teachers and anyone interested in personal, social, ecological and spiritual healing and transformation. It is my hope that this work will bring a renewed sense of wholeness, vitality and meaning to people's lives and also to the world at large.
