Abstract

Imbalanced blood sugar underlies a multitude of health concerns, some of which are fatigue, anxiety, and simply not feeling well. Type II diabetes is rising at unprecedented rates in the United States and worldwide; however, it is considered to be preventable. Health education regarding signs, symptoms, and blood labs can alert an individual to imbalanced blood sugar long before a diabetes diagnosis. The current focus on weight as a marker of health or ill health causes those who are overweight to be targeted for diabetes testing and those who are average weight to be overlooked. This means many people are not being tested early enough for blood sugar imbalance, contributing to the diabetes epidemic. Women are particularly at risk of 40 unbalanced blood sugar and are at higher risk of complications arising from high blood sugar, such as death from heart attack and stroke. Empowering women to connect the dots between symptoms and blood sugar balance and supporting them in taking actions that bring their blood sugar back into balance are key to helping them create and sustain vibrant, good health. The blood sugar balance model is a holistic model with five pillars designed to create balanced blood sugar. The five pillars are food, exercise, sleep, stress reduction, and meaningfulness. While the blood sugar balance model is designed to support balanced blood sugar here and now, it will also contribute to preventing diabetes.
