Abstract
I have created a three-part, one-hour, slide-tape presentation on three key photographers, P. H. Emerson, Alfred Stieglitz, and Paul Strand, who used the camera in a straightforward manner without manipulation, devoid of all tricks. By viewing the 240 slides and listening to the tapes of the artists' view of their own works, the viewer will move through almost 100 years of photographic history as seen through the works of these three outstanding artists.
As the project requires audio/visual presentation to be complete, the written portion is not in thesis form, but serves as an introduction and background. This is supplemented by typescripts of the audio tapes and a list of images to be viewed. The true, developed content of the project exists only in the live presentation where the audience experiences the projected image in the context of the artist's words. This experience will be supplemented by chronologies to be handed to the viewers as background information. The final section of this report also includes a selected bibliography for the quotations used in the scripts. These statements are carefully culled from the bodies of material on each artist. Selections have been made to illuminate the most significant facts about the works and the man. Together, the statements, slides, and chronologies will aid the audience in experiencing the flow of the work which these three photographers have created.
