The purpose of this project is to determine and assess the methods of caring for sacred Native American objects in mainstream museums, and tribal museums/cultural centers. I have accomplished this by interviewing museum curators, collection managers and/or registrars from such museums. I also have conducted a literature review of the importance of Native American sacred objects in traditional practices, the historical and present attitudes toward these objects, and any published materials that discusses collection care methods for such objects. My product is a guidebook that makes recommendations for mainstream museum professionals regarding the care management of sacred Native American objects in the collection. These recommendations reflect the findings from my research and address the museum professionals who work with the collection
