Abstract

This paper discusses how perfectionistic traits can impact health and explores methods to help highly self-critical clients. Ken Wilber's four quadrants (psycho-spiritual, biological, interpersonal, and worldly) are used tc help explain the source of perfectionism as well as its influences on the body. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is used as a framework for working with a client's inner critic. The paper also addresses how to blend coaching with education while working with a perfectionistic client. In closing remarks, it encourages readers to consider the importance of expanding these principles culturally and sociologically while contemplating health care reform
