Abstract
Families are a unique audience with special needs. During visits to interactive exhibits, parents often find themselves unable to learn from anything they are seeing because they are too busy keeping track of their children. In addition, the children are often missing the learning experience because they are running from exhibit to exhibit.
The purpose of this project was to create a family gallery guide to help families enjoy and learn from interactive exhibits. This guide will introduce the family to the exhibit topic, include activities for the family to undertake in the exhibit hall and at home after their visit, and guide the family through some of the exhibit's interactive components.
This project was conducted for Green Street, an exhibit about environmental awareness in an urban setting at the Science Museum of Minnesota. The project was a pilot study with recommendations on how to adapt it for other institutions.
