Abstract
The purpose of this project is to explore how empathy, care and inclusive practices can be used as early intervention anti-bullying strategies. The level of and frequency of bullying has soared to an all-time high requiring immediate attention. Victims of bullying are isolated as they are subjected to physical and emotional abuse from bullies. Victims require support as they often lack the necessary confidence to effectively deal with bullying on their own. All members within a school community are responsible to keep students safe and advocate in the best interest of the children. A thorough review of literature on the subject of bullying and various intervention approaches is presented. This paper offers multiple recommendations in order to combat bullying at the elementary school level. The Roots of Empathy program, a classroom community kit that focuses on empathy, care and inclusion and a zero tolerance Code of Conduct are suggested.
