This study examined the theoretical application of empirically supported chronic pain interventions of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Multimodal treatment of chronic pain, to that of non-chronic pain for the purpose of determining its effectiveness for treating and preventing chronic pain development. A thorough literature review on each of these interventions along with an analysis of their theoretical basis was undertaken. The results indicated that application of these treatments to non-chronic pain was not only theoretically valid and beneficial, but also necessary to achieve maximum potential for successful treatment. Furthermore, objective arguments were brought forward that supported the possibility of a decrease in development and prevalence of chronic pain as a result of this theoretical intervention.
