Abstract
This paper presents a fundamental background on Navajo textiles, and an overview of their needs and problems. With such preparation, an inquisitive and concerned caretaker can make better use of the diverse published material available on textile maintenance. Real problems, when they arise, can be more easily identified by a knowledgeable caretaker. This paper can also facilitate a non-textile specialist's work with textile conservators and consultants, should the need arise.
