Abstract

This study will provide a detailed analysis of how athletes deal with the transition out of sports and into a non-sporting life. It will also address the reasons why the transition out of sports was necessary. This study looked at ways to prepare individuals for the transition out of sports and focused on whether that transition was positive or negative. The data was collected by interviewing four subjects and asking them a series of research questions. From the questions, themes were developed and quotes were examined. From my study the results showed that two out of the four subjects retired because of age and the other two retired because of injury. The results showed that four out of four subjects had a positive transition. The results showed that only one out of four subjects prepared themselves to make the transition out of sports. Two out of four did prepare for life after sports.
