In this thesis I look at the background of infidelity as well as hypothesize factors that contribute to infidelity occurring in heterosexual couple relationships including early attachment. As the Internet is becoming a greater part of our everyday activity, connections between Internet use, online relations, and cybersex are explored as well as the effects on loved ones whose partners engage in cybersex. A distinction between emotional and sexual infidelity will be made as well as shared accounts of individuals who have been affected by cybersex. Recommendations are made for further research and implications for counsellors are drawn.
