Abstract

What is sought in this study is the essence of the experience that organizational stories provide. Storytelling provides an effective tool that can be employed to increase awareness and to foster healthy interactions in the workplace. This study used phenomenology, which is uniquely suited to storytelling, because rather than asking questions it allows the participant to describe their own experience in their own words. Phenomenology is a journey to understanding our reality in its purest essence (Morse & Richards, 2002). Experiential phenomenology is an exciting and personal approach which allows the subject to recall their workplace-related stories. By employing the qualitative research approach of phenomenology, the study focuses on learning how the art of storytelling can be utilized to further the goals of organizational development.
