dc.description.abstractIn this thesis I am sharing my personal journey with depression to illustrate how bullying, racism, and low self esteem have all been factors that contributed to my mental health and eventually led to depression. These factors were complicated by my experience of being a second generation Indo Canadian in a small town where there were not many people of colour. It is my hope that by writing and talking about these very personal problems, that there will be an increased awareness and level of comfort in being able to talk about and understand the underlying causes of depression and other mental health issues. By sharing my personal narrative, I hope to encourage open dialogue, bring awareness to these issues, find a way to talk about these challenges and to find ways to effectively deal with them. I am also looking at existing literature where I will compare/contrast findings of the review with my auto-ethnography.
