dc.description.abstract | This thesis will focus on integrating mindfulness-based practice, and aspects of spirituality to safely and effectively treat emotional, psychological, and physical suffering while creating wellness. The content consists of five connected chapters using a manuscript style thesis. The first Introduction chapter includes the preliminary research, and an overview of the following chapters within the thesis entitled Spirituality, Mindfulness-Based Practice, My Personal Narrative, and Conclusion. The chapter on spirituality describes three relevant eastern religions and philosophies focusing on Hinduism, Buddhism, and Sikhism including other significant spiritual concepts. The Mindfulness-Based Practice chapter consists of mindfulness meditation (MM) as it is used in the four major Mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) including Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT), Mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR), Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). My Personal Narrative is an autoethnography highlighting my personal experiences, and reflections of spiritual, and mindfulness development. The final Conclusion indicates the implications for counselling practice by integrating mindfulness and spirituality for holistic well-being, and future considerations. | |
