dc.description.abstract | This paper is a review of research articles on the relationship between parenting stress and the behaviours of children with autism. Autism spectrum disorder (ASD), which is also known as autism, is characterised by challenges across various domains of functioning, including social, emotional, and behavioural. Parents of children with ASD often experience significant levels of stress. With the goal of contributing to knowledge on autism from the family-systems perspective, the author's aim was to answer the research question "How does parenting stress impact the behaviours of children with autism spectrum disorder?" The author discusses the bidirectional and unidirectional variables and their associations, in addition to parents' perspectives on their experiences of raising children with ASD. The findings in the literature inform the conclusions in this paper related to clinical practice and areas for future research. Overall, the researchers reported complex interactions between parenting stress and internalising and externalising behaviours in children, which highlights the need for clinical interventions to consider family factors and parents' well-being in treatment planning and promote changes in the behaviours of children with ASD. | |
