The loss of a parent at a young age can have significant effects on a child's mental health. Experiencing parental death can be associated with high vulnerability in children (Bergman et al., 2017). Children who come from families who are immigrants, may have less support than those who aren't. They may have less social support in their grieving process. Bereaving a death of a parent can be difficult for children who don't understand the meaning of death, and cultural differences can influence how they cope with their trauma. Losing a parent can impact a child's psychological development, overall health and create social issues for the child growing up. The roles of family and peer relationships can determine how surviving members deal with the impact of a death, and how they support one another.
