Abstract
The awareness of learning disabilities in the work place is minimal and managers more than likely do not have the skill to identify a learning disabled person within the work group. There has not been an overwhelming emphasis on educating management on how to work with learning disabled adults to increase their productivity and effiency at work. The non learning-disabled employees' awareness of learning disabilities in the work place is also marginal. Learning disabilities in the work place is an important issue to management and employees from the top of the organization to the bottom. With increased awareness can come increased cooperation from peers wanting to help the learning disabled employee. Much of the attention towards learning disabilities has been centered around children with learning disabilities and how the educational system has catered to their needs by creating numerous programs. After graduation; their next step is to enter the workforce and possibly secure a position with a company. The workplace is not as protective and encouraging as the educational system, due partly to the lack of dialog and awareness of learning disabilities in the work place. Increased awareness could lead to training at the organizational level, management level, and employee level. This study proposes to analyze how learning disabilities affect adults in the workplace.
