Abstract
This project looked at six girls who were involved in a mentoring program called Sportsbridge. The purpose was to find successful mentoring strategies to counteract self-esteem loss in these girls. Each girl answered a set of questions about themselves and about having a mentor. The data were then transcribed and analyzed qualitatively for common themes. The researcher, herself a mentor who believes mentoring to be a positive experience, had to keep herself from leading the participants in a certain desired direction.
Several themes emerged. They were:
*Spending time with her mentor
*Having fun *Leaming/T1.ying new things
*Feeling safe
*Meeting new people
*Having an adult to talk to
*Having an adult to relate to
