Abstract

This project focuses on how a nonprofit management consultant can assist San Francisco nonprofit art exhibition spaces in becoming more financially independent and professionally run in order to build the infrastructure necessary for stability and future growth. The purpose of this project is to identify and to evaluate the ways in which a nonprofit management consultant can influence an art exhibition space in improving its professional administrative practices. By analyzing the experience of San Francisco nonprofit alternative exhibition spaces that may have used, or are currently using, a management consultant, this master's project offers, through a web site, a set of guidelines and resources for art space decision-makers (boards, staffs, and volunteers). My hope is ultimately to strengthen nonprofit art spaces so that they can continue to thrive.
