Abstract
In essence, this study will look at the athlete's description of an experience of being mentally tough. This will include a description of the environmental factors and preceding events that lead to the emergence of this psychological condition. It also includes individual factors that are influential in the development of mental toughness such as personality, motivation, physical/emotional distress, and social issues. This will offer athletes a realistic portrayal and expectation of the status they are striving for, and offer coaches and sport psychologists a guideline for facilitating the development of mental toughness.
