Abstract

The following thesis will demonstrate fon Mary Shelley’s novel, Frankenstein, is in its entirety a feminist protest against the female gender norms of the time and an extension of her mother’s work. Through evidence of Mary Wollstonecraft’s A Vindication of the Rights of Women and close feminist reading of events and characters in Frankenstein, this thesis will provide evidence that reveals that the novel outlines what was wrong with the gender expectations of the era and outlines the ideal gender norms and domestic structure.
