Abstract
The purpose of this master's project was to raise visitors' awareness of how museums interpret photographs in the presentation of history. As a result of the project, a booklet was produced that engages visitors with ideas about a museum's use of photographs as historical evidence. The booklet explores how museums investigate photographs as images and objects; how issues of selection, display, and context affect the meaning of photographs; and how museums construct notions about the past. Using text and images, it encourages active looking, provides questioning strategies, and inspires curious, critical thinking that is useful both in and outside of the museum.
