Abstract
Working with children in schools has many unique opportunities to practitioners. The vast majority of counselling and social support referrals to counsellors and support workers are boys. The high referral rate of this population suggests that providing support in a group setting would facilitate positive changes with these individuals and would be beneficial to all the parties involved. The ideal age for prevention and intervention strategies is the early grade levels in order to address the negative behaviors effectively. Educators and parents are experiencing difficulties with this portion of the population because of a number of factors including: genetic make-up, mass media, social/cultural influences, and classroom size. Specific skills and strategies have been compiled to create a group outline that can assist practitioners in working with a group of boys aged 8-10 years.
