Abstract

The purpose of this master's project was to encourage zoos to develop and implement interpretive play environments as a means of expanding conservation education programming for family audiences. The product supporting this goal was a report to The Oakland Zoo, comprised of a preliminary proposal for an interpretive play environment for that institution and a summary of the supporting research process. The primary target audience for the play environment was families with young children--a social group herein defined as adults accompanied by children aged eighteen months to ten years.
