Abstract

The purpose of this master's project was to facilitate a rethinking of the way museums approach their roles as collecting institutions. It focused on the mid-size community museums of British Columbia and sought, through the means of a survey, to examine current standards of collection acquisition and innovative new models for this area of museum activity. The information gathered was summarized in a report to the field that provided museum professionals with a resource to compare and contrast their operations, and to derive information and ideas with which they could foster change within their organizations.
