Abstract

This paper explores a somatic approach to health and healing. The first part discusses the importance and relevance of a somatic approach and some of the hurdles faced with respect to the current medical paradigm and the culture within which we operate. It then lays out a program that participants can use either on their own or in conjunction with a health professional to undertake a proprioceptive journey of their body. The program is divided into nine sections. In the first three sections, which form the core practice, the participant develops the skills necessary to embark on a proprioceptive journey of their body. The sections that follow build upon these skills to explore a person's well-being in the context of belief systems, emotional states, relationships, symptoms, and pain. The final section focuses on the quantum layer of reality and how altered states may also be used to facilitate the healing process. In the conclusion, some of the limitations and challenges of the program are discussed.
