Abstract

The relationship between health practitioner and client is an integral part of the healing process, perhaps even more important than the chosen technique. When awareness is brought to the role that relationship has played in the manifestation of physical disease, the relationship can play a role in the healing of that disease. A model is needed for more fully understanding and consciously engaging the healing power of relationship with the whole person. By bringing together the wisdom of Vedanta, Yoga psychology, and psychotherapy, such a model can be created. The Five Koshas, originally presented in the Upanishads, provide a map for realizing the totality of who we are. They provide the framework for the relational model being presented. This model offers a greater context with which to hold the healing relationship and the development of awareness. Brought into a healing practice, this model provides a valuable reference for determining specific areas of the relationship or issues that require our awareness.
