Abstract
The purpose of this project was to promote the teaching of ethnic studies in public middle and high schools. Specifically, this project resulted in a resource guide for ninth-grade history-social science teachers in the Oakland Unified School District of California. This resource guide illustrates methods and provides information about local and national museum resources available to teachers who want to develop and incorporate African American culture into their existing history-social science curriculum.
Although designed to follow the State of California's history-social science framework guidelines and to focus on the ninth-grade elective course of ethnic studies, this resource guide can be used by all middle and high school teachers who want to introduce diverse perspectives into their existing curriculum.
