Abstract

The original premise of this study is that if an African-American male high school junior student were provided with mentor coaching one year prior to his senior year, what would be the impact on his future academic aspirations? Would it improve his chances of succeeding academically? During the interview process, the focus of the study shifted to a look at how well African American male high school juniors are being prepared to move past their senior year in high school and enter an undergraduate program. The coaching aspect of the research project provides only one possible support service towards, the overall process of high school male juniors preparing for college within the African American academic framework. The impact of coaching on the six participants will surface at different stages of the research project.
