Abstract
I will examine some of the different types and uses of sacrifice as they are found in several of the world's religious traditions, such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, Lakota, and Judaism. Each of these traditions gives a basic insight into the nature of sacrifice. I will also present some modern theories on sacrifice that will shed new light on these traditions. After that, I will discuss the similarities between the different traditions in order to develop a full description of how sacrifice affects the practitioner spiritually and psychologically.
