Abstract
The Indies Company in the new Historical Museum of Southern Florida is used as a case study. Planning for the museum store began in Spring 1983, one year before the five-mile move of the Museum from the Viscaya complex to the downtown cultural center. Initial implementation followed in the fall in preparation for the April 1984 public opening. Evaluation and analysis are ongoing. However, those germane to this thesis were conducted in the two-month period following the public opening of the Indies Company.
