Abstract

Spirituality and Healthcare is a controversial subject for researchers, healthcare providers, theologians, and patients. Modern healthcare has incorporated spirituality in some areas of medicine; unfortunately, the application of spiritual practices has been reduced to how they influence our physiology. The spiritual essence is missing. Reductionistic principles have been applied to spirituality and its connection to our health and healing. Health educators have an opportunity to transform the way healthcare views spirituality by focusing on an individual's inner connection with the divine. Expressive arts and the use of rituals are tools that may be used to restore the essence in the mind-body-spirit connection to healing.
