Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explore the similarities between leadership and spiritual development in the context of how executives make meaning and learn from crisis. In this study, two organizational executives are interviewed in depth about their experience leading their company through a time of crisis. Their experience is analyzed using the qualitative method of phenomenology to determine the ways in which executives make meaning and/or learn from the organizational crisis. In the discussion section, I explore the relationship between leadership development (including the process by which successful leaders learn), cognitive development (including moral development and decision-making), and spiritual development, as described by leading author James Fowler (1981).
