Abstract

My final product is a list of questions to get museum staff to think critically about the collection and to assemble all policies and producers in one document for future staff and volunteers. This will allow for consistency among those who oversee the collection as well as hold such individuals to the standards agreed upon. The second half of the document lists professional associations who provide collection management resources. By providing this information, small museum staff and volunteers can continue to self-train while using reliable resources and begin to implement best practices. Overall, the best way to approach the audience of small museums is to not force best practices on them, but instead give them tools and resources they can apply where necessary.
